Mai Chau is a small town in Hoa Binh province. A popular place mainly by vietnamese tourists. Mai Chau could be a starting place if you want to explore Pu Luong Nature Reserve or visit nearby Hoa Binh Lake. Travel distance is only about 65 km from Moc Chau, another “non-tourist place” in the northwest part of Vietnam.
Mai Chau is a place full of nature and a good option if you want to try to stay in the local homestay of the ethnic Thai people or enjoy some cultural activities.

- You can visit Mai Chau year but the best time to visit Mai Chau is in April, May, June, August. Because it rains much during this time, a lot kinds of flower bloom very strong.
- September, October are also a good season to have wonderful view of rice terraces around this area.
Where to go from Mai Chau?
- You can travel from Mai Chau to Moc Chau, travel distance is only about 65 km, so you can rent a motorbike and travel on your own. If you want to travel by local or tourist bus from Mai Chau to Moc Chau – ask for the bus at your hotel. Another good reason why to visit Mai Chau is to travel to Hoa Binh Lake.
- Teoretically you can also travel to Ninh Binh or return to Hanoi by by bus, shuttle bus, limousine Dcar or private car with driver.
